What's Photo-catalysis?
Catalysis is the process of aiding or speeding up a chemical reaction of the critical substance by a substance that does not itself undergo any change.  In this case, catalyst is natural sunlight.
What photocatalytic medium is used in the fabrication of ActivMirror?
TiO2 Titanium oxide is used as a catalytic support medium in the fabrication of ActivMirror.
How can TiO2 decompose oil and inorganic dust?
A TiO2-coated mirror surface requires either natural sunlight or artificial light source with ultraviolet spectrum output smaller than 400nm to execute its unique dirt decomposition phenomenon. As light strikes the TiO2 coating, electrons are excited and as a result, O2 is attached to the mirror surface to OH-. Active oxygen group O2 & OH- are responsible for full oxidation. When light strikes the organic substance (eg: oil or dust), its carbon atom reacts with O2 to form CO2; its hydrogen atom reacts with OH- to form H2O. This mechanism makes glass self-clean, oil-resistant, anti-bacterial, odor-resistant, etc.
How does ActivMirror enable clear vision in raining days?
Conventional glass & mirror surfaces are water-resistant / water-repellent (i.e. hydrophobic). And we cannot get clear vision through such mirror when accumulated water droplets create reflection & refraction of light (i.e. distortion). ActiMir, on the other hand, is hydrophilic in nature so instead of forming droplets the water spreads evenly over the surface (i.e. rain water 'sheets' down the glass), and as it runs off takes the dirt with it.
How about the stability of its photocatalysis effect?
Theoretically speaking, catalyst is forever constant regardless of the ongoing chemical reaction. In practicality, photocatalytic process is impaired if mirror surface is obstructed or covered by non-reactive substance like heavy dirt. Remember, UV light must reach the glass surface for photocatalysis to take place.
What is the effective temperature range of ActivMirror?
-40° up to 80°. This is the ideal range for the structural & photocatalytic stability of ActivMirror.
How long does the photocatalytic coating last? For a few weeks or months?
How long does the sun last? Since that ActivMirror is activated by sunshine, as long as the sun exists & shines onto earth, ActivMirror shall not flake off or discolor and its photocatalytic coating shall keep working. However, this is only true if the ActivMirror is not damaged physically by pointed objects, abrasive cleaners, or steel wool. We offer a 2-year warranty for our customers but physical/chemical damage will void this warranty.
How does it attach?
We understand that many side mirrors cannot be detached from the housing easily. Some have unique support brackets while others have heating coil in the back. So we can supply ActivMirror with industrial-grade double-sided tape for easy and direct attachment.
Can ActivMirror de-ice and melt snow?
As revolutionary as it be, ActivMirror has its limitation, too. So the answer is no but you may somehow attach heating element onto the backside of ActivMirror to get these features.
Specifications
UV rays (under 400nm) found in natural sunlight and many artificial light sources activate ActivMirror. As little as 0.1-1.0 mW/CM2 is strong enough to activate its photocatalytic and hydrophilic capability.
Once you receive ActivMirror the first time, wash it gently with water & expose it to direct sunlight for 30-60 minutes.
Once ActivMirror is activated, it retains its hydrophilic and photocatalytic abilities for 24 - 72 hours depending on environmental pollution levels.
If ActivMirror has not been illuminated by natural sunlight for a long time, clean its surface with a neutral detergent, this will keep its effectiveness for 2 - 4 hours.
Under normal circumstance, do not worry about mechanical car washing machines and high-pressure water jet systems as these will NOT hurt the effectiveness of ActivMirror.
Any wax remnants can be completely decomposed under sun exposure for 24 hours (i.e. 2 daytime periods).
ActivMirror's original function can always be restored by cleaning off adhesive wax, abusive chemical solvents, fingerprints or particulate pollutants with a neutral detergent.
Never wash the ActivMirror with metal brush or scrub, this will also void the warranty.
Newly-attached ActivMirror requires at least 24-hour setting time for its double-sided tape to stick properly.
Never smear wax over ActivMirror or else its hydrophilic function is impaired.
Clean ActivMirror gently with neutral detergent one to two times per month.
ActivMirror cannot decompose inorganic matters such as dust, clay, tar, etc.
