  • Will the Wireless Mobile Amplier work with any type of cell phone?
  • It will work with any handheld cell phone that uses 800 MHz or 1900 MHz cellular bands and operates in the AMPS, CDMA, TDMA or GSM formats. It is, therefore, compatible with all cellular service providers. From July '05 & on, we will have models for the Nextel / IDN carrier as well.

  • Will the Wireless Mobile Amplier work worldwide?
  • The current version of our cellular amplifiers (B800-1900 or B851) will work with 800 MHz and 1900 MHz or 851 MHz/iDEN frequencies. This will work within North America and most of South America. A GSM version for Europe and Asia is in development and will be available shortly.

  • Will the Wireless Mobile Amplier work with “wired” hands-free kits connected to an external antenna?
  • We have a unit (B800-1900-WU) that is only available via special-order & is designed to work with existing hands-free kits. The wireless amp. is best suited for users who do not use a hands-free kit, or who use a “wireless” hands-free kit such as Bluetooth®. More information on our B800-1900-WU in-line unit is available at request. Just email me for more info.

  • Does Wireless Mobile Amplier have to be professionally installed?
  • No, but we recommend it for the permanent (hardwired) version (B800-1900-1F). There are individuals who are capable of installing a car stereo, for instance, that will have no trouble installing our unit on his or her own. But, again, our recommendation is that a professional install it.

  • What about the user that does not want to have this permanently mounted in his or her vehicle?
  • There are two kits available. One is the fixed (hardwired) version (B800-1900-1F). The other is a portable version (B800-1900-1P). The portable version (B800-1900-1P) includes a cigarette lighter/12V adapter and external magnetic mount antenna. This will enable a person to install the unit themselves and use it in more than one vehicle. Even though this won't look as neat, it affords people the option of getting it in the vehicle without paying for an install and he/she can swap it from their work vehicle to another vehicle as required.

  • Does it matter where the antennas are installed?
  • Yes, the two antennas connected to the amplifier need to be a certain distance apart in order to achieve the best isolation. If they are too close, the amplifier will automatically reduce the gain to prevent signal oscillation (similar to microphone feedback). The LED on the amplifier would be yellow or red if the antennas are not properly isolated. Ideally, the donor antenna (wing-shaped or magnetic mount antenna) should be mounted at the bottom of the rear window or, in the case of the magnetic mount, as far away from the internal patch (re-rad) antenna as possible. The re-rad should be mounted as close as possible to where the cell phone will be used. The farther the cell phone is away from the re-rad antenna, the lower the amplification benefit. Ideally, this distance should not exceed 2-3 feet.

  • Does the user need a cellular signal for the unit to operate?
  • Yes, there must be a cellular signal present. This product will not generate a signal that isn’t there.

  • How can the Wireless Mobile Signal Amplifier help?
  • It will reduce the number of dropped calls as you are transferred between cell towers and provide additional range in fringe coverage areas.

  • Will the Wireless Mobile Signal Amplifier help with data wireless card transfer via GPRS connection?
  • Yes, it will enhance data speed transfer (via GPRS & cellular connection, not WiFi) & restore GPRS speed to its full capacity which is otherwise lost due to poor cell signal.

  • What is the warranty?
  • One year from date of purchase.

  • The Wireless Mobile Signal Amplifier is just a "compensator", not a "booster" like other competitive units, right?
  • The wireless unit is a signal booster or, as we prefer to call it, a signal “enhancer.” It has 50 dB gain and will increase the signal level in your car with no wires connected to your phone. Since you have no connection to your phone, you have a variable amount of free space loss between your phone and the pick up antenna, so depending on where you are relative to the pick up antenna you would not be anywhere near 2 or 3 watts output with the signal strength unit. Our unit will bring the power level up to 0.6 watts output but at the outside of the car, this overcomes the losses due to being inside the car.

  • Are other brands that have 2 - 3 Watts better than the Wireless Mobile Signal Amplifier's 0.6 watt operation?
  • Since you very seldom would be able to drive your unit to 2 or 3 watts, it is not improving the range due to power. The way to improve the range is through gain and our unit has 50 dB gain. This will improve your range under all conditions unlike your 2-3W unit.

  • I'm told by manufacturers of 2-3W brands that the range is linear with respect to transmit output power, and therefore extends my range up to 50 miles! Is this true?
  • This is not true for the following reasons:
  • Your phone will not be driving your amp to 2 or 3 watts in most cases.
  • Unless you are in the desert, all of the building and trees etc., around you greatly limit the range you can obtain.
  • Unless you are in a boat going out to sea, the power will not help you. What you need is a unit which gives you enough signal boost in gain to allow you to go from cell site to cell site without dropping a call. Our unit does this with no wires.

  • What radiation levels are emitted from this device?
  • Our unit does not give off any significant radiation inside of the vehicle and in fact helps to reduce the radiation that is given off by your phone. Your cellular handset will vary its own power depending on the signal level it perceives. If it is receiving a weak signal, it will put out its maximum power. In most cases, this translates to a radiation level that is near the federally mandated maximum for specific radiation absorption levels. With our signal amplifier installed, the phone will see a stronger cell signal and will lower its own power, thus reducing the amount of radiation that is giving off. A side benefit of this is that your cell phone's battery will last up to 5 times longer due to the fact that it is operating at lower power levels. The antenna inside the car which is sending the boosted signal to your phone needs only minimal power to reach your cell phone and therefore does not add any appreciable radiation inside of the car. All the power and radiation is from the external or rear antenna and is directed towards the cell tower.

  • Is the Wireless Mobile Signal Amplifier approved by the cellular service providers?
  • Our unit is compatible with all carriers and cell phone manufacturers with no attachment to the phone. It also is FCC approved and therefore can be used on any carrier system.

  • Will the Wireless Mobile Signal Amplifier cause interference with the network CDMA protocol?
  • Our unit will not cause any issues with the system because it is designed to the power level of 0.6 watts, which is what the system wants to see. The 2 or 3 watt units can cause system issues and dropped calls due to system confusion due to the higher power levels. The higher power level causes handoff problems between cell sites, where our unit will not cause this issue.

  • Do you have a unit for the home office?
  • Yes, we have just launched a unit that covers about 500 sq.ft., or typically one room coverage. It will be ideal for home office, college dorms or apartments. A 2,500 sq.ft. version will follow shortly.

  • How long does it take to install the units?
  • About 15 minutes for portable version, 30 minutes for fixed version.

  • How do I install it? And what if I have problems getting it to work?
  • We can provide you with an installation manual or visit the manufacturer's self-help resource. Users can also contact a technical support call center at 800-471-2012.

  • Can I purchase extra antennas for my other cars?
  • Yes, each of the accessories provided with the system are available for individual purchase.

  • I've heard that the manufacturer makes these for luxury cars – is this true?
  • The manufacturer has been building a wired version of this product and selling it to a major handset manufacturer for installation in several luxury car platforms. There are presently 400,000 amplifiers now in operation in North America.

  • Can the Wireless Mobile Signal Amplifier be used in my home or RV?
  • The manufacturer will soon have a family of cellular amplifiers that can be used in the home or at the office. They will be ideal for coverage in the home, office, college dorms or apartments.

  • I have a 2006 BMW with integral roof top antenna. Is it possible to use your amplifier with the BMW antenna? Where do I connectd to the BMW cable?
  • It is not recommended to use our amp with the BMW antenna, but instead use the glass mount antenna that comes with the hard-wired version. Its antenna mounts on the inside of the glass and won't be noticed from the outside of the vehicle.

  • I'm intersted in the Amp. I'd like to install it in a camper. How does the unit limit the number of phones that it uses?
  • Practically up to 3 users but technically, infinite. The reason why we suggested 3 user is because that you have to be within 2 - 4 feet (4 feet being the absolute maximum) in order for the amp to work on your phone. Try cramming more than 3 - 4 people in that small of an area! If the receiving antenna is mounted near the dome light, then there is a better chance that more people can use it.

  • The cellular reception inside my vehicle is severely impaired by this window tint film that I have installed. Will this amp help me?
  • High-technology tint films these days block rays including UV-A, UV-B, infrared & visible light via the use of metallic and/or ceramic nano-components. As a result, they impair cellular, satellite & GPS reception. Since that our amp utilizes external antenna, it totally bypasses the blocking effect of the tint film & the result is a strong cellular signal.

  • We usually have around 4 people in our bus and 2 of them use 3G UMTS and the other 2 use CDMA. Can your amp help us?
  • Yes, our amp works with all CDMA as well as UMTS protocols. UMTS, also called (W-CDMA), is essentially one of the third generation (3G) protocols for mobile data communications. It is what will allow a user with a 3G phone to watch video on the phone with data rates of greater than 384 kbps. UMTS was developed primarily for GSM networks. In the US, it is using the same GSM frequencies on the same towers. Other 3G protocols include ATT/Cingular's EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) and Sprint's EV-DO (EVolution-Data Only using the CDMA2000 protocol). So it is not an issue of the towers or frequencies changing, but of the networks implementing this new protocol and people buying phones that will take advantage of the higher bandwidth signal. Bottom line, our amplifiers will work with this protocol as well as all the others in the US. Go to: http://www.umts-forum.org/servlet/dycon/ztumts/umts/Live/en/umts/What+is+UMTS_index

  • Can I use your mobile amp in Europe in particular Spain? Our solution is mostly a directional dual band Yagi (best) or panel (less) antenna on a 4-5m long pole, attached via a handsfree car kit to a GSM/GPRS modile phone (IrDA connection to PC) or a PMCIA card - the cables are European standard RG58 with FM-E female connectors - something to keep in mind for your future EEC customers because any adapter/connector causes loss. Our AC adaptors are 220V - 50KHz. The exact specs. for European GSM are: Class 4 (2W) 880-960MHz and Class 1 (1W) 1710-1880MHz. The above mentioned config is mostly used for the Internet upload, download is normally and without any problem via broadband satellite.
  • Not yet. We are working on a GSM unit but it is just in the test phase. We are also told in Europe that such units require approval from the carriers which could take an extended period of time. For this reason, we are not focusing on the European GSM market but rather Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

  • Sprint & Nextel have now merged, what if they come out w/ a Spring GSM + Nextel IDN converged phone? Which amp should I choose?
  • Our view is that there will never be a phone using both iDEN and dual-band networks for the same reason we don't have an amplifier to do both - it would be too expensive. I can see a phone that perhaps uses Nextel's push-to-talk network, fortunately our amplifier enhances the signal of the the push-to-talk feature.

  • Is this amp compatible w/ Blackberry?
  • Yes. Fully compatible.

  • What can I do to reduce the risk of brain tumors as induced by cell phone radiation?
  • Simply don't use a cell phone or stand close to someone who is. Humans have survived up to this point without them. We can continue to survive without them.
  • If you must use a cell phone use it only in places with a strong signal and/or with a mobile signal amplifier. This allows the phone to transmit at low power (up to 100 times lower than its maximum value), reducing exposure accordingly.
  • Minimize the length of calls.
  • Extend the antenna and hold it away from the head. Hold the phone away from your head whenever possible.
  • Use a hands-free kit with an external antenna and keep the phone away from your body.
  • Do not use an earphone unless it is one made of fiber optic cable. Studies have shown that a metal earphone wire can act as an antenna and direct radiation into the head from the ear canal.

  • I would like the amp to be a permanent mount, but the package you offer does not include an external antenna to overcome the window tint problem. If I get the portable package, will that exterior antenna hold up in a car wash? If it does not allow for car washes, can I use a different brand of external antenna, and what type of connector will I need?
  • As far as tint goes, we have seen problems w/ AUDI's because they use metallic tint. If your tint doesn't contain metals then you can use the fixed one & not worry about car wash. The external antenna in the portable version has the possibility of coming off in a car wash but out of experience, only 1 out of 10 cases comes off. Find out from your manufacturer to see if they use metal in the window tint.

  • Troubleshoot: The red light on the unit comes on when I turn it on but it doesn't ever register that it is getting signal nor does it improve the signal on my phone. I've tried it in a city where there is full coverage as well as in the country where there is limited signal and it doesn't seem to be doing anything.
  • It sounds like you've your antennas too close together. The manual says 3-4 feet but it is really like 5-6 feet. The antenna that has the amplified signal is hitting the other one. So, if there is any way you could move the antenna's apart more, that should fix your problem.
